Owensboro Birth Services provides birth doula, postpartum doula and massage services.

We believe in empowered birth for every mother and family. When working with expectant mothers, we want women to take an active role in caring for their babies through each part of motherhood from pregnancy, to birth and beyond.  We also help families bridge the gap between adding a new baby and finding a new sense of 'normal'.

Our mission is to inform and educate our clients so that they are confident throughout their childbearing year.

We believe that every woman carries her birth experience(s) with her, throughout her life.  We would love the opportunity to help you learn about your options for birth and how we can best support your desires.

What does empowered birth look like?

Empowered birth involves a mother treated with respect who participates actively in the decisions regarding her birth and her baby.  It means knowing all of your options, risks, benefits, alternatives and having the ability to make choices considering all of the best evidence-based information.

How can I have a healthy birth?                                      Follow these recommendations from Lamaze International.

Walk, move around and change positions throughout labor

Bring a loved one, friend or doula for continuous support

Avoid interventions that are not medically necessary

Avoid giving birth on your back and follow your body' urges to push

Keep your baby with you to enable the best relationship and to promote breastfeeding

Do you only work with women who want a natural childbirth?

A doula's job is to help a woman and her partner achieve the birth they want and to support the couple's wishes and goals. Doulas do not make decisions for their clients or expect them to give birth in any particular way -- doulas give clients the information they need to make choices that match their desired birth experience and then support their decisions.
